We send our sincere thanks to Mr & Mrs Atherton who found this lovely old sketch map of Sark which they offered to the hotel after researching Sark on Google and finding Stocks.
It is now hanging in pride of place in reception. We love to have items in the hotel with a history or story attached and this complements our collection beautifully.

Congratulations to the BBC and their Stargazing Live broadcasts last week for enlightening interest in Dark Skies and bright stars. Well done to Dulverton in Somerset for attempting to create their own dark skies event.
However if you are keen to experience the real thing visit Sark – the world’s first dark sky island – on Saturday17th March. Public Astronomer, Dr Marek Kukula, is visiting Sark to give a talk and answer questions. His main interest is in distant galaxies and the supermassive black holes within them, and his role as Public Astronomer is to enlighten, educate and make astronomy.

The annual Sark Folk Festival has become immensely popular and Stocks Hotel has been fully booked for months.
However the good news is that we do have accommodation available for most other dates throughout the summer.

Happy New Year
We would like to say thank-you all the revellers who welcomed in the New Year – 2012 - at Stocks in Sark last night. Everyone enjoyed a great party; starting with a 7-course banquet menu followed by canapes, Champagne at midnight and yet another buffet at 1pm. Some people got to bed just before the crack of dawn.
Better book now for the same time, same place, next year. The tickets will be selling like hot mince pies with Sark brandy butter.

Everything about your hotel is just perfect and I can’t wait to come back! The staff are all so friendly and attentive, without being intrusive; the food both at breakfast and dinner was just outstanding and the room I had was very relaxing and comfortable – the idea of leaving some Christmas cake in the room was particularly good!
It was my first time to Sark and most definitely will not be the last! I am hoping to bring my wife over in February and so will definitely be back in touch to book something up with you.

By now you probably think that we have forgotten all about you, and the promise to forward the photos taken at Stocks Hotel back at the beginning of October. Well we certainly haven’t forgotten you or the lovely evenings we spent there. Roger and I arrived back in Melbourne at the beginning of November and we have only just uploaded all our photos (1000s of them!) onto the computer, hence the delay in forwarding them.
We hope that you are still enjoying yourselves on Sark? We thoroughly enjoyed it there and were quite sorry to leave after only a couple of days. We still cannot really believe that we were away for a third of a year but we did have a fantastic time away, seeing new places and meeting many lovely people including yourselves.
No doubt it is now cold there, whereas here in Melbourne today it is very warm. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and that 2012 brings whatever you wish for yourselves.

Last week two events were held at Stocks to raise funds for the Crescendo Fund, an Island Charity, which raises money for musicians to visit Sark and perform for the children at the Island School.
On Thursday evening we held a Christmas Fayre in the Courtyard at Stocks which was wonderfully well attended. There were stalls from Alfie Adams, Jill Luddick and Sam Hagerman, as well as Robbie Magell selling his jams, and Ann Atkinson selling her eclectic collection of Chief Pleas hats.
With the funds raised from the stall sales, the mulled wine and mince pies, and the raffle as well as £5 for each of Ann’s hats, the total raised at the Christmas Fayre for the Crescendo Fund was looking good before the City Limits Charity Dinner Dance.
The school children came down and the school choir sang several songs in the courtyard in final preparation for their performance at the Toy Service on Sunday.
On Saturday evening about 50 people came to Stocks and enjoyed a wonderful meal followed by live entertainment from City Limits the popular beat combo who came across from Guernsey for the weekend.
With the funds raised on Thursday and Saturday evening a grand total of £820 has been raised for the Crescendo Fund.
This has been a great way of launching the festive season at Stocks and we would like to thank everybody who came along to support these events to help raise money for this excellent local cause.
