Stocks
Smugglers Bar
The
Smugglers Bar is one of the oldest and most popular watering
holes on Sark. Located in the very oldest part of the building
at Stocks Hotel, many of the original 16th century oak ceiling
beams are still visible.
Sark smugglers used to hide their illicit booty in the cellar
at Stocks. This was often plundered from passing sailing ships
that had accidentally (?) foundered on Sark's notoriously
treacherous coastline.
Today, the Smugglers Bar at Stocks is a much friendlier place.
In addition to a reputation for dispensing generous quantities
of craic and general bonne home, the Smugglers Bar features
one of the finest selections of beers, wines, spirits and
liqueurs in the island. The prize-winning Stocks sloe gin
is particularly recommended.
Stocks Smugglers Bar has a reputation for offering good value,
fresh food, simply cooked and served in informal surroundings.
Every lunchtime and evening a popular gastro-pub style bar
menu is featured. Daily blackboard specials and alfresco snacks
are served in the front garden or on the sun terrace beside
the swimming pool.
If you
are planning a days fishing why not bring your mammoth haul
home and let the Chef grill it for you - fresh, plain and
simple ?
