Artists for nature

Ysbrand Brouwers, director and founder of the Artists for Nature Foundation (ANF), first visited Sark during May 2010 and he gave a presentation about the work of his organisation and to launch the island’s bid to host the foundation’s next major project.

Ysbrand and ANF’s film-maker Hans Rademakers worked closely with Sark artist Rosanne Guille and successfully managed to bring fourteen of the world’s leading wildlife artists to the island for a fortnight during May 2011.

The talented group created a wonderful selection of paintings and sculptures, mostly directly from life on location at various points around the island. The finished works reflect all aspects of island life, Sark’s bountiful natural history and its stunning landscape and coastline. As well as involving the school and community during the project, the resulting book, film and touring exhibition will highlight the beauty and fragility of Sark’s wildlife and natural habitats.

ANF have now successfully completed 15 projects in locations ranging from the dry forests of Peru to the bogs of Ireland making significant contributions to conservation efforts wherever they go. Ysbrand and Hans were delighted with the enthusiastic response to the project here in Sark and they were captivated by Sark’s rugged natural beauty and charm.

Stocks were pleased to host the group during their historic visit to Sark. To discover more about the foundation and how to contribute please visit Rosanne’s web site, or the ANF website or the Wildlife Art Journal website.
