Stocks Hotel Investment is Good News For Sark

Stocks Hotel in Sark has been the home of the Armorgie family for 30 years, who are pleased to be part of a new venture created to allow for the major investment and sympathetic development of Stocks Hotel during the next 3 years. The new investors with the Armorgies are the Woolford and Magell families who have been next-door neighbours to Stocks since 1972.

The exciting plans include the creation of new family suites in the former hayloft above the old granite stables. The hotel gardens will be landscaped to include a new solar-heated swimming pool with adjacent spa facility. It is intended that the existing dining room, kitchen and bar will be rebuilt alongside the pool to also provide a poolside dining area and demonstration kitchen. The old farmyard will be paved and the granite stables will be converted to provide leisure and retail space to provide facilities for the production of local produce such as cider, beer, sloe gin, elderflower cordial and facilities for the sale of locally made products including jams, chutneys, chocolates and Sark apple brandy.

New staff accommodation is being built to provide 20 comfortable rooms and leisure areas. This will be vital to enable us to attract top quality chefs and other key staff. It is hoped to include training facilities and provide a training centre for budding new chefs and other hospitality staff, and therefore enhanced job opportunities for local youngsters and others that may wish to enter the industry.

Paul Armorgie is very excited by the opportunity to invest in the hotel. “Above all it demonstrates great confidence and optimism in the future of high quality tourism in Sark”, he said. This is mirrored by other developments in Sark including investment in the Seigneurie Gardens and other tourism-related projects throughout the island.

The development at Stocks will be sympathetic with Sark’s unique eco-environment. Energy conservation and solar energy will form an integral part of the new buildings. The hotel has worked closely with Sark fishermen and farmers, and will continue to feature superb quality local fish, shellfish, meat and vegetables.

Stocks has been synonymous with family holidays in Sark for over a hundred years and the continued visits by families and guests seeking quiet comfort will remain at the heart of the new plans.

The renovated family-owned, independent hotel will continue to attract guests to Sark from around the world, and visitors will be able to experience the charm of the island whilst enjoying the ambience of a first class small hotel in the heart of Sark.

The hotel closed in October 2009 for a 16-month re-development programme and we look forward to welcoming guests again early in 2011.
